Why get a medical second opinion?
A medical second opinion is a valuable resource when you are faced with difficult health circumstances or choices regarding your treatment options. Second opinions are quite common throughout the health care industry and are frequently utilized by treating physicians to assist in providing the best care possible for their patients.
Depending on where you live, your availability for travel or your mobility, you may have limited access to highly specialized care. Virtual Medical Consultations provides timely medical opinions on neurological conditions and neurosurgery from Dr. Aubrey Lieberman without requiring you to spend time and money on traveling.
Other reasons for considering a medical
second opinion include:
• Assistance in selecting the best treatment
option for your condition;
• Learning more information about other
treatment options available for your
condition; and
• Confirmation of your physician's
treatment recommendation.
How does a medical second opinion work?
After registering with the practice, you will need to provide information on your health history, your current symptoms, and any tests you have had. With his extensive knowledge in the field of neurology, Dr. Lieberman will be able to provide you with:
• What commonly happens based on
your diagnosis;
• Provide you with treatment options that
you can implement with your physician
• Be a sounding board or second opinion
based on what you have already received
from your physician
• Outline research data to support his
findings and recommendations.
All of your communication with Dr. Lieberman will be provided through the confidential
Health Portal. If additional research and a visit is required, Dr. Lieberman will coordinate this
with you directly. The Health Portal provides a confidential secure email option where you can communicate directly with Dr. Lieberman.
Do I need my physician's permission to request a medical second opinion?
No. The service that Virtual Medical Consultations offers is designed to complement the care you receive from your local, licensed physician. Virtual Medical Consultations desires to preserve the relationship you have with your physician. We also believe the benefits of your medical second opinion are maximized when your local physician is included in the communication of the assessment and opinion. This is your choice.
How much does a medical second opinion cost?
The initial charge is $75. This is likely to suffice in many instances. When more detailed extensive analysis is required, services will be provided at $200/per half hour. You will be notified in advance if additional charges are required.
Payment is due at the time of the request.
Major credit cards (MasterCard, Visa,
American Express and Discover) are the accepted means of payment. A receipt for services will be emailed to you after
payment is received.
Does my health insurance cover a medical second opinion?
Virtual Medical Consultations, Inc. is a self-pay service. At this time, most health plans do not cover a medical second opinion, although there is increasing interest in doing so. You may contact your insurance carrier to inquire of your benefit coverage for a medical second opinion; however, Virtual Medical Consultations will not file a claim with your insurance carrier.
Please note that even if coverage is available under your health plan, most insurance companies will require procedure codes to process reimbursements. We cannot provide procedure codes for any services provided through our medical second opinion program. We encourage you to investigate your insurance company’s requirements and are happy to
assist you with any questions you have about our services.
